‘C.Y. O’Connor’ - C.Y. O’Connor Beach, North Coogee Western Australia
This statue, created by Western Australian artist Tony Jones, is permanently positioned in water of the Indian Ocean approximately 10 metres off shore from C.Y. O’Connor beach. The beach was named after C.Y.O’Connor who rode his horse in to the surf and committed suicide by shooting himself. The horse then returned to shore with his body.

“I always feel this pressure of being a strong and independent icon of womanhood, and without making it look my whole life is revolving around some guy. But loving someone, and being loved means so much to me. We always make fun of it and stuff. But isn’t everything we do in life a way to be loved a little more?”

“As a society, we encourage girls and women to be emotionally accessible, and in touch with their feelings; we say that it’s an innately feminine trait. We say it, that is, until they have feelings that make us uncomfortable, at which point we recast them as melodramatic harpies, shrieking banshees, and basket cases”
